A Registered Social Worker-Provisional (RSW-P) can apply to convert to a Registered Social Worker (RSW) at any time as long as he or she can fulfill the conditions of a Registered Social Worker. This means that a RSW-P is not required to renew his or her current accreditation in order to apply for conversion to RSW.
A Registered Social Service Practitioner (RSSP) can apply to convert to a Registered Social Worker-Provisional (RSW-P) or a Registered Social Worker (RSW) at any time so long as he or she can fulfill the conditions of a RSW-P or a RSW respectively. This means that a RSSP is not required to renew his or her current accreditation in order to apply for conversion to RSW-P or RSW.
You will be asked to update your Personal Particulars, Education, Employment and Personal Declaration for the conversion. In addition, you will be asked to submit the following requirements for the different categories of conversion:
From RSW-P to RSW:
- 1 year of post-qualification social work experience locally;
- 80 hours of Relevant In-Employment Training; and
- ^1000 hours of Supervised Practice during studies and/or employment after obtaining the degree or graduate diploma in social work.
From RSSP to RSW-P:
- A recognised degree or graduate diploma in social work with accompanying certificate and if necessary, official transcript.
From RSSP to RSW (for RSSPs who commenced their social work programmes before 1 July 2013):
- A recognised degree or graduate diploma in social work with accompanying certificate and if necessary, official transcript; and
- ^1000 hours of Supervised Practice during studies and/or employment.
NEW CRITERIA - From RSSP to RSW (for RSSPs who commence their social work programmes from 1 July 2013 onwards):
- A recognised degree or graduate diploma in social work with accompanying certificate and if necessary, official transcript;
- 1 year of post-qualification social work experience locally;
- ^1000 hours of Supervised Practice during studies and/or employment after obtaining degree or graduate diploma in social work.
^For applicants who graduate with a Degree or Graduate Diploma in Social Work in 2010 and after, the supervised practice hours during employment must be obtained from a supervisor with a recognised degree or graduate diploma in social work and at least 4 years of post-social work qualification experience, of which 1 year must be in Singapore. This means that the supervised practice hours must be obtained from your supervisor after your supervisor has obtained his or her degree or graduate diploma in social work for a period of at least 4 years. A social worker who does not have a qualified supervisor at the workplace may obtain the supervised practice hours from an external supervisor under the SASW Supervision Service. For applicants who graduate with a degree or graduate diploma in social work before 2010, the supervised practice hours during employment may be obtained from a supervisor without a recognised degree or graduate diploma in social work or at least 4 years of social work experience.
