A Registered Social Worker-Provisional (RSW-P) can apply to convert to a Registered Social Worker (RSW) at any time as long as he or she can fulfill the conditions of a Registered Social Worker. A Registered Social Service Practitioner (RSSP) can apply to convert to a Registered Social Worker-Provisional (RSW-P) or a Registered Social Worker (RSW) at any time so long as he or she can fulfill the conditions of a RSW-P or a RSW respectively. This means that a RSSP is not required to renew his or her current accreditation in order to apply for conversion to RSW-P or RSW.

You will be asked to update your Personal Particulars, Education, Employment and Personal Declaration for the conversion. In addition, you will be asked to submit the following requirements for the different categories of conversion:

This means that the supervised practice hours must be obtained from your supervisor after your supervisor has obtained his or her degree or graduate diploma in social work for a period of at least 3 years*.  A social worker who does not have a qualified supervisor at the workplace may obtain the supervised practice hours from an external supervisor under the SASW Supervision Service.  For details on how supervised practice hours during employment are computed, please click here. For details on registration for external supervision, please click here.

For applicants who graduate with a degree or graduate diploma in social work before 2010, the supervised practice hours during employment may be obtained from a supervisor without a recognised degree or graduate diploma in social work or at least 3 years* of social work experience.

To apply for conversion of accreditation status, please log into your account and choose the "Conversion" option.

   * The minimum number of years of experience for the supervisor will be raised from 3 years to 4 years with effect from 8 February 2018. Click here for details.
