A Registered Social Worker-Provisional (RSW-P) can apply to convert to be a Registered Social Worker (RSW) at any time as long as he/she can fulfill the conditions of accreditation as a Registered Social Worker.

A Registered Social Service Practitioner (RSSP) can apply to convert to be a Registered Social Worker-Provisional (RSW-P) or Registered Social Worker (RSW) at any time so long as he/ she can fulfill the conditions of accreditation as a RSW-P or a RSW respectively. This means that a RSSP is not required to renew his or her current accreditation in order to apply for conversion to RSW-P or RSW.

You will be asked to update your Personal Particulars, Education, Employment and Personal Declaration for the conversion. In addition, you will be asked to submit the following requirements for the different categories of conversion:

From RSW-P to RSW:

1. 1 year of post-qualification Social Work experience locally; and
2. Obtain a pass (75% mark) in the Online Ethics Quiz at point of application; and
3. 80 hours of relevant In-Employment Training; and
4. ^1000 hours of Supervised Practice during employment after completing Social Work Qualification.

From RSSP to RSW-P:

1. Possess at least a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Diploma in Social Work recognised by the Social Work Accreditation and Advisory Board (SWAAB); and
2. Have an offer of Social Work employment or employed as a Social Worker in a social service agency, government agency, hospital, Institutes of Higher Learning, registered charity or society engaged in Social Work practices in Singapore; and
3. Obtain a pass (75% mark) in the Online Ethics Quiz at point of application.

From RSSP to RSW:

1. Possess at least a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Diploma in Social Work recognised by the Social Work Accreditation and Advisory Board (SWAAB); and
2. 1 year of post-qualification Social Work experience locally; and
3. Obtain a pass (75% mark) in the Online Ethics Quiz at point of application; and
4. ^1000 hours of Supervised Practice during employment after completing Social Work Qualification.

^For applicants who graduate with a Degree or Graduate Diploma in Social Work in 2014 and after, the supervised practice hours during employment must be obtained from a supervisor who is a Registered Social Worker and has 4 years of Social Work experience post qualification. A Social Worker who does not have a qualified supervisor at the workplace may obtain the supervised practice hours from an external supervisor under the SASW Supervision Service. For details on registration for external supervision, please click here.

For applicants who graduate with a degree or graduate diploma in Social Work before 2014, the supervised practice hours during employment may be obtained from a supervisor without a recognised degree or graduate diploma in Social Work or at least 4 years of social work experience.
